The sides at Big D's House of BBQ are just as impressive as the main dishes. From creamy mac and cheese to crispy fried okra and tangy coleslaw, every side is made fresh and complements the smoked meats perfectly. The cornbread is another standout, with a golden, slightly sweet flavor that pairs wonderfully with the rich BBQ sauce.

  • I met Big D while working a catering event and got to try a lot of his menu items. I recently went to the restaurant and it was excellent. I got the brisket and ribs in the 2 meat combo with green beans and Coleslaw. I could eat the green beans every day; they are fresh and deliciously flavored. The coleslaw dressing is mayo based but it is light and so good. Big D’s brisket is the best I have had anywhere in SC and I would put it up against most in Texas. It has just the right amount of fat and falls apart. The ribs literally fall off the bone and are fantastic. I don’t like smoked flavor in most things but the Smoked Chicken Wings are phenomenal. He has 3 homemade sauces and offers a 4th to cover all tastebuds. The mustard base is rich and flavorful; I’m not usually a fan of mustard sauce but his is so good and has unique ingredients that set it apart. I love the other two sauces, as well. The restaurant is homey and the service is exceptional and all the food is prepared fresh. They are only open Friday through Sunday and a bit out of town but it is more than worth the trip. BBQ fans owe it to themselves to get their now!

  • A great family restaurant offering delicious meals served with love and appreciation for the customers. An excellent value for the portions and quality of dishes. This may have been our first visit but will definitely not be our last. Looking forward to trying the smoked Ribeye!

  • Don’t judge a book by its cover this place is awesome! We were driving home from my sisters house in NC and got hungry so we decided to find a BBQ place in SC. I ordered the brisket plate, my wife order the brisket and ribs and my son had the burger, hands down the best brisket I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is simple with a hometown feel. Our server was very sweet and attentive. The owner walked in and greeted everyone in the place. If you’re on HWY 11 near Salem make sure to stop and get your grub on.

  • Stopped in on our way through town and were looking for a BBQ place. We asked the server what one of the menu items was and she offered to bring us both a little sample. Delicious! The best things we had between our two orders was the fried catfish and Brunswick stew. That Brunswick stew is worth a special trip just on its own! It's now one of my top 3 favorite meals! Nom nom nom. So yummy. Wish this place was a bit closer to home but we'll definitely be back.

  • Went on the way to a show. They didn't have the meatloaf which is why we went. Everything was good and Tammy was the best.

We were asked 3x's over how we were and how was everything... we were so busy eating , all we could do was put a thumbs up!!! We even had a to go plate made for our supper tonight !!! • Truthfully this place was delicious. I felt the value of the meal we received was lower than the price charged for the meal. We went on Sunday, which meant all menu items weren’t available. We purchased a 2 piece meat with 2 sides for $18.50 per plate. We wanted dark meat so I expected one thigh and one drum leg. When I opened the box there were two smaller sized drum legs and pretty normal portions of sides. I know the economy has caused inflation and price gouging but $20 for this amount of food disappointed me a lot. The food was very good taste wise but for the size we could’ve easily bought more for less. Otherwise a solid choice for a meal in West Union. Update: Came to enjoy another meal at Big D’s House of BBQ with my church family this Sunday and met the owner. While the food was just as delicious as it was before this experience was quite different. The owner recognized us from the review we’d left before and personally made sure we were happy with our meal. I had the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and cabbage. This time I had a full thigh and leg with my meal. My husband had the smoked meatloaf, Mac and cheese and turnip greens (beyond words amazing!) Truly glad we came back and we’ll be back again soon!
